As a child, you see the world through bright-colored lenses.
Everything is vivid, alive, novel.
Every moment feels like a first,
and when you leap into the unknown,
there’s always someone’s warm hands ready to catch you,
or at least stand between you and the fall.
Then one day, without warning,
the hands disappear.
They take the lenses away,
and the world turns flat and gray.
The edges cut deeper.
And the shock stays with you.
You spend the rest of your life
trying to bring out the colors that once existed.
But they always slip away.
No matter what you do,
The world remains lifeless,
uncolored,
and dull.
